Medifast Review Summary
------------------------------------------------------

Touting convenience, there are now many meal-delivery services available. Though, Medifast seems to be one of the most restrictive of these plans. According to the company website, dieters who follow Medifast primarily stick to a very low-calorie liquid diet for an extended amount of time. The Medifast plan does allow for one “lean and green” meal a day, but otherwise, dieters are only allowed to eat 5 Medifast products each day. This plan may be too restrictive for some consumers, but we will still take a closer look at this plan below.

Plan at a Glance
------------------------------------------------------

The Medifast meal plan is quite simple, and the Medifast company website describes it as the 5 and 1 Plan. As mentioned, dieters will eat 5 Medifast products and 1 “lean and green meal” Each day. By “lean and green,” the company means that consumers must stick to lean meats and vegetables. While this meal is still restrictive in nature, it can be eaten at any time.

Plan in Focus
------------------------------------------------------

The 5 Medifast products that are allowed per day primarily consist of liquids. Though, consumers can choose to eat one Medifast snack bar per day. The rest of the choices include, shakes, oatmeal, pudding, iced tea, hot drinks, chili, soups and fruit drinks. It does not appear to matter which of these choices dieters choose to consume each day, as each Medifast product consists of 100 calories. However, this may mean that the daily caloric intake will be well below 1000 calories. Many health professionals feel that such a low caloric intake is too close to fasting and starvation, especially for an extended period of time. There are some health professionals that speak out against the Medifast plan, as they feel that it can deprive dieters of needed nutrients, vitamins and energy sources.

For the most part, the diets we come across that are very restrictive in food and calories are obviously the hardest to follow. If dieters find the Medifast plan to hard too follow, they may end up constantly breaking the meal plan, which could affect end results. Though, one negative aspect of Medifast is that it does not appear to offer any nutritional counseling. The Medifast plan cannot be followed forever, so once dieters are finished with Medifast, they may end up regaining any lost pounds if they revert to their old eating habits.

The Medifast plan costs just under $300 for a 4-week supply of meal-delivery service, though this does not include the cost of the “lean and green” meal that dieters will have to purchase from the grocery store.

Positives

• This product has garnered a lot of negative consumer commentary, which can be read on this popular Medifast blog. If you are interested in more information, you can read another Medifast review by Sensational.com. For a third opinion check out Medifast here.

•Medifast plan may be quite expensive
•Requires a very low-calorie meal plan
•Cuts out many foods
•Plan may make it hard for dieters to transition back to a regular diet

Final Thoughts
------------------------------------------------------

In the end, Medifast is fairly popular and well known in the diet industry. This may appeal to some dieters and make them want to try the Medifast plan. Though, as mentioned, we are concerned about the strict requirements of the Medifast meal plan and the calorie restrictions that dieters will have to follow while on Medifast. However, some dieters may be attracted to the convenience of the pre-packed meals and home-delivery service. Those who are can learn more about this program on the Medifast website. However, consumers who want to continue their diet search do have plenty of other options available, and we always recommend fully researching a plan or product before use to ensure quality.
