| GABA for Natural Male Enhancement December 16, 2009 | |
| GABA Review Summary ------------------------------------------------------ GABA, otherwise known as Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid, is an amino acid in the brain that functions as a neurotransmitter. GABA is used in supplements for a variety of purposes, including the alleviation of “depression, manic-depressive disorder, seizures, premenstrual dysphoric disorder, and anxiety.” This ingredient is said to be “good for a depressed sex drive” due to its “ability as a relaxant.” We are somewhat concerned by the notion of individuals attempting to correct bipolar disorder, seizures, and depression through vitamin supplements. It is our opinion that these conditions generally require a more aggressive approach. In addition, we question this component’s usefulness to couples seeking simply to reinvigorate their sex lives, since this does not appear to be one of its main functions. Couples whose sex lives have become stale due to serious depression or anxiety may need to take other measures. We will assess this product’s ability to enhance sexual arousal, stamina, and satisfaction. For the purposes of review, we will evaluate one formulation in particular, Herbal Remedies GABA. Ingredients at a Glance ------------------------------------------------------ GABA seems to have both “excitatory” and “inhibitory” effects on the brain and the body, according to one resource. One expert states, “GABA has primarily excitatory effects early in development, and is in fact the major excitatory neurotransmitter in many regions of the brain prior to the maturation of glutamate synapses.” In later developmental stages, GABA apparently may exert an inhibitory effect. Ingredients in Focus ------------------------------------------------------ Unfortunately, despite the many disorders which GABA is said to correct, its true benefits have been called into question. According to one expert, “The use of GABA in the treatment of these conditions may not be effective.” GABA may also yield certain unpleasant side effects in some consumers. It has been said that GABA may lead to breathing problems, tightness in the throat or chest, and hives. Lifestyle ------------------------------------------------------ We are concerned that those who take this ingredient in supplemental form may not be properly addressing serious conditions. Despite its purported use for these conditions, we feel that this ingredient might not be sufficient to alleviate severe disorders. Certainly, we would not advise any consumer to substitute this supplement for a proper seizure medication. We are also slightly skeptical of the wide range of maladies this ingredient is said to address. It appears to be billed as a “cure-all” rather than focusing on one particular condition. We believe that the better supplements are those that are specifically geared toward dealing with a specific condition or situation. Positives ------------------------------------------------------ • Is said to help with bipolar disorder • May alleviate depression • Is apparently recommended for seizures Negatives ------------------------------------------------------ • Addressing serious conditions with only a supplement seems questionable • Does not appear to have any targeted mechanism for sexual enhancement • May lead to difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest • Some experts claim it may not be effective Final Thoughts ------------------------------------------------------ In the end, we believe that consumers who are seeking to reignite passion, arousal, and enhanced sexual fulfillment may be disappointed by this supplement. Because it seems intended to address such a wide variety of other conditions, we do not see how it could possibly be precise in targeting libido and sexual performance. There are now several herbal products available that are very precisely targeted to enhance penile blood flow, ramp up libido, and supercharge stamina. These supplements do not address sexual performance through the route of “depression.”Instead, they stimulate arousal and vigor directly, through the nerves and blood vessels surrounding the penis. Currently, some of the most talked about sexual components are Panax Ginseng, Epimedium, and Tribulus Terrestris. Original Article Reference: | |
